The end of an era.

The end has come. The end of school that is.
My cap...it reads: Have heart, not Apple like someone thought ;)

This is special people because I have been in school for pretty much my whole life at this point and I'm 29. I'm i the first person to do this? No. Was it a struggle? No. Did I have a lot of help? Yes.  So why make this a big deal? I'm not but! This for me and my family was a big deal. I quit my job to finish, john found a better job to support us and Ellie's grandparents helped so often when john or I couldn't be there at all hours.

So for those who may not know the story (which isn't THAT interesting)

Q: I thought you already went to college. Why are you back already??
Well... I graduated from East Carolina University in 2009 with a BS in German education (k-12) certification and a minor in art and design (hmmm when will I use that ?) it was fun but hard! Ecu's fine arts program is no joke. Anyway, I moved to SC to teach at an elementary school. I knew I wanted to go back to school but I thought it would be a masters in ESL education. So where does nursing come in to play? Well... I'll say I always admired nurses and the job that they had. I just didn't think I was cut out for it. I didn't think I could do the core classes (chemistry, statistics, all the biologies) then definitely not the care part. Well I got motivated enough to at least try when I found out the local community college had an ADN program. I wasn't happy teaching. I liked the teaching part but that was just a fraction of the job. So i decided to expand the horizons. I started to go part time and take evening classes 6 to 9. I did this for two years. Of course I met my john in November after moving to SC in July. He knew my school plans (hey I'm going to grad school!) and then the nursing school plans later (ok maybe no grad school). When it was time to get serious and apply to nursing programs, I realized I could get my bachelors just as quickly as an associates. So, I applied just in time to  USC upstate. I resigned from my job after 3 short (felt kinda long) years and john became our financial everything. This was pretty scary I have to admit. I didn't make much and I was saving most of what I made for school but still it helped.
I became a full time student again and two and a half years later, it is done. Well kind of. I still have to pass the NCLEX and get a job but the other stuff is done. Holler!

Graduation

It was challenging to go back but I suppose school is supposed to be.

For graduation my parents came and john and his parents came to the ceremony. Of course Ellie too. She has been the best school parent's baby.  She was a part of the success as well. So thank you God, john, Ellie, parents on both sides and wonderful friends. Because of y'all this era has been good and we are looking forward to the next. John graduates soon and we will be school free for a while. #realadults. Thanks again for the love and support.

Love, so-to-be-official nurse Brittany and fam.
