Saturday
We left Saturday after dropping off the dogs at their new kennel location. (seems to be a go! The more $$ but the dogs seem happier and they came back bathed, so I didn't have to). We took our time driving down. Partly our choice, stopping a little extra, and partly not, congested summer traffic. The drive in to the island was beautiful. It's always pretty but the first time I came in 2010 there was an epic downpour and Holly (John's sister) promised it's not the full experience unless you can see the marshes, water and bridge as well as all the moss trees and cranes, etc etc. All the lovely things. It's true. We did our usual road trip deal which was stopping at rest stop picnic shelter for lunch. We have come to enjoy this more than restaurants. I pack a picnic basket and Ellie sits on the table with blanket/towel and has her plate too. Sometimes during the summer the bugs flying will drive to um, eat a little faster. But last time we were in a fast food restaurant I had ants crawling around anyway, so you know at least we didn't pay the ants this time.

After got in and explored the house (It was fantastic! We had a HUGE room complete with Ellie's own nook and balcony access everywhere) we unpacked a bit and ate dinner. BTW this trip included John's parents, his sister and her boyfriend and (duh) us three. John whole fam used to go and went for annually for ages until 2012. I think it was just too much to pack everyone in. At last count I think there were 20+ people?
Sunday
Sunday was fantastic! (warning you might hear this a LOT) But it was! We started by shopping for some water shoes for Ellie. Truthfully I though it was totally unnecessary but John was all about it saying "the sand is too hot for her! The shells are rough!" Well, I cant resist a father protecting and caring so for his daughter so I didn't oppose. We found some and headed back. Ellie loved her shoes and it was hilarious to watch her try and tottle around in them 'cause they were a bit big. We made it to the beach and it was just the three of us. Me, John and Ellie with beer in tow (worth mentioning as I had been day dreaming about some day drinking for a while!-just two beers people, don't get the wrong idea). I sat with Ellie in the sand and we played with "water buckets" as sand was not her thing. She kept trying to brush it off her feet. John sat in the chair lifeguard style and we just listened to music and sooooo enjoyed the beach and quite frankly each other. This trip was just as important to be together for a whole week. Alas the party had to come to end as dictated by threating clouds. We scooted up and went to enjoy dinner with everyone.

Monday
Back to da beach!
Otherwise chill day so here's an opportunity to link in alittle info about the island. Click here to read up some quick facts! While you're at it, click here for a quick at the elusive "mystery tree".
Tuesday
Tuesday was more of a pool day. This year we decided to get pool passes to a local resorts pools so that Ellie and Holly (had recent back surgery) could enjoy themselves more. The pool went to this day was right beside the marsh which was pretty cool. We saw the turtles and some fish, different birds. Ellie nervously sat in her float but she does enjoy the water, the float just makes her feel a little insecure I think. The ice cream truck and guess who had to go indulge? Yours truly + John. While on the subject...$3 for a popsicle???? I know it's been a while since I rushed an ice cream truck but still. highway robbery. it was still good though ;) We went out to dinner this night and I took some pictures of Ellie while we hung out outside waiting on the rest of the crew. I can't remember why exactly (I think she wanted more dessert?) but we had to step out a little early for a distraction. Normally we cook all our meals at the cottage but we do go out once or twice.
that's good for part one. see you soon for two!
