Edisto Part 2

Where were we? Wednesday I believe so without further ado...oh wait, there is further ado.
On Tuesday, we had a semi-belated birthday celebration for John's mom and sister. (Birthdays were in June). We had homemade ice cream (from Holly and her boyfriend) and cupcakes (not homemade, but on vacation=no time for that) and presents were shared. Ellie saw the candles and kept saying "hot!" and trying to blow them out.
Funky shorts twin ;)

Wednesday

On this morning, someone (me) had the clever idea of the women folk going out to breakfast together and so we did. Side note-John doesn't like a big breakfast and truthfully I'm not a huge fan either but a couple times a year won't hurt! We went to the Sea Cow which is the best beach diner you will ever come across. I was so dreaming of it before we even came to island. A pretty chill afternoon followed playing at the beach and the younger adult crowd went back to the beach later to enjoy the evening. After that, we had a dinner served by holly and Jonathon which was just lovely :)

Thursday

This morning John and I took Ellie for a little ride in the "wah" (wagon) which she absolutely adores. Best to go early because whoa-humid afternoons. In the afternoon we had another pool day at a different one this time. A storm was kinda brewing with off distant thunder rolling but people were still playing so we thought, meh well stick around and see what happens. I kept Ellie out of the pool for a little while (thunder-but people still in the water!) but then when it started sprinkling and thundering that's when folks starting flying out of the pool area. Well, we hunkering down and starting eating chips and salsa just knowing it would blow over and...It did! mostly. It stopped thundering and sprinkling and we got a big pool to ourselves! Ha!  Just like as a kid, it doesn't get old pretending you have your own pool. So, after our little pool party, we went home to dinner and games. (We don't play games much but its fun to be a kid again and play board and card games from time to time).

Friday

Friday started off with some grayish weather which didn't look super promising. John, Ellie and I decided to go to the pier (so we thought but we went to the beach there instead) and the marina. The marina is on the (marshy?) side of the island. I'm sure its not a marsh, at least it's not what comes to mind when I think of a marsh. It is blue water, lots of shore birds and just all around pleasant. No bad marsh smells. We got to see the only shrimp boat which docks there come in and unload their catch. The birds were hilarious to watch. There was one crane and maybe three pelicans watching the shrimp boat waiting for a handout one could guess and they kept pushing the poor little crane further away! The pelican would knock the crane from one pier post to the next to get closer. oh the bullies of the animal world.

We thought ellie would so enjoy seeing the water and animals but...she slept the whole time. Well, actually I woke her up, she held her head up and said "bird!" before going right back to her slumber.

The funny thing about this 'gloomy" day was the weather made the temperature more pleasant and it seemed even more quiet on the island since not as many people were out. We had a good time in the morning.
Later when the weather cleared for a moment, we went to the beach and juuuuust as we had settled a bit with Ellie playing on her blankets with water buckets the dark clouds came rolling in from the other side of the beach. It started sprinkling, we waited. OK, coast is clear! not. It got even darker and we decided, yes it is indeed time to run. We packed quickly and just in time to get to our cottage before the bottom fell out. Even a storm can' t ruin the beauty of the beach though. Im just glad we got out there for a little while!

Of course we had to pack up Saturday morning and head home. We stopped and had our picnic and a safe trip. It was good to be back at our house but we miss the beach too. I actually enjoy seeing the little bit of sand in Ellie's wagon and our truck. I say again it was just so great to be with my family for a whole week. LOVED it. I also so enjoyed the porches. coffee, talks, books. ah! good times. All on a porch ; )

Early (ish) coffee with a view
