From Thursday night...nothing to do with this story but it was cute all the same! We were waiting for the rain to stop so we could walk back from the pool ;) |
At the beginning of August, we went back to NC for a quick (as usual) visit with my family as my brother was about to deploy to Qatar for a couple of months with the air force and we needed to visit. Also, (long story short) we order some car seats from Amazon and they got shipped to my brother by accident. A few hours (and mild panic attacks from him) later it finally got it sorted out where they came from and called us. So... we needed to pick them up.
We left Friday morning as I didn't have to work Thursday night and it still took most of the day to get there. It was a nice trip though, moderate traffic for the summer. My mom had dinner Friday night and some family came over which is always nice. May I share for a moment that wonderful, welcoming feeling when you walk into your childhood home and all those comforting smells greet you at the door? Ah, I love it. Anyways, as luck would have it, the good-old fashioned watermelon festival was going this year the weekend we showed up. As a side note, it wasn't supposed to be this year but it was the 30th anniversary and apparently some local businesses pulled together to make it happen?? Crazy but kind of cool too. That meant on Saturday morning we took Ellie to see the parade which was really good! We got to see my old high school band playing, the little watermelon princesses and everyone else to be seen and heard. Ellie was rightly entertained and so was I. John was sweating. J/K, well its true but he had fun too. After the parade, we grabbed some lunch and headed home. My brother and his fiancé Sarah stopped by for a couple of hours. We got to talk some more about their new home(!!) and say goodbye to Jeremy until October. There we spent more good time with everyone and talked a lot on the party patio. A fine spaghetti dinner topped it off and then of course we had to go home Sunday late morning.

She kept bringing toys to my grandma which was so stinking cute. |

This was just uh, interesting to me. Didn't find what we were looking for but we did find a giant, inflatable ice cream. |

Hey, we live here. NOT! |
It's always, always good to get home for a little while but it seems as though we can never stay long enough. We come and go so quickly and its all gone in a happy blur.
What a good trip!! I'm so glad you were able to go home and visit for a little bit!! I agree though, the visits are never long enough!
