We might as well go along with the merry words as Christmas will be here before you know it and according to some (many!) the halls are already decked in homes everywhere. I was just talking to my good friend about this today and so where do you stand? Christmas tree goes up right after Halloween? Thanksgiving? Well into December? The later used to be me and quite frankly was up until this year most likely. I prefer to let Thanksgiving have it's spotlight and enjoy it and the fall in general before thinking so much about Christmas. It's funny, in Germany many trees don't go up until a week before Christmas or Christmas Eve (in general). People here would just go crazy in waiting I'd imagine. But yes, for reasons I'll explain more later we (I) plan to put our tree up the Friday after Thanksgiving because we will most likely have to take it down much sooner this year. Like right after Christmas. And that my friends we will be new record here.
Switching gears back to fall, I wanted to share, though I am late, some pictures from Halloween and fall stuff in October.
Here is the obligatory trip to the pumpkin patch. No really, it was nice just let Ellie have the run of the show. I took her on one of my days off in late October and going during the week and before schools let out was sheer genius on my behalf.
We went to Mini Miracles Farm which is really about less than 10 minutes from us. The proceeds to events like this pumpkin go to support the farm and the special need children who come to work there. The people are super friendly and its just a very laid back atmosphere on a small farm. Plus I got in for like $2. First responders and nurses get half off admission!
Besides the pumpkins, they had tractors and other props to climb on, a "play house", hay ride and of course farm animals.
This picture cracks me up. I was telling Ellie to put her head in the hole and kept gingerly putting her hand through instead. Eventually she got there but it was so stinkin' cute!
Halloween 2015
The week before Halloween, we took Ellie to trunk or treat at our church's annual event and we passed out candy too. We never decorate our car (I know, lame) but we still bring the goods. As you can tell, Ellie was a homemade Minnie Mouse. It turned out really good though! I only had to buy the ears! Some people thought she was a cat but hey, overall it was a winner. Surprisingly, she let me draw on her nose and whiskers and would ask, "more whiskers?!" Again, so stinking cute.
On the actual Halloween, we were at first going nowhere. Then I thought we'd go to a local park where supposedly they were having a little festival for children. Ah perfect! I thought, we get to skip trick or treating but Ellie will still have a good time! Well. I got little Minnie all dressed up again, gave her the candy bucket just in case and said "We are going to go play!" We drive 20 minutes only to find nada at the park. For the record, I STILL don't know what happened there. I get back in the car to report my findings of nothing to John and little Ellie says from the back seat, "Go play?" Break. My. Heart. So of course we had better find something for this little one to do! We decide to take her trick or treating to one neighborhood on the way home. She had a great time and though she would say "tank you!" to everyone (when reminded) when she got candy. By the end of the night she kept saying, "knock on doors!" all the way back to the car. Ellie really is in her element when we are out so it seems. The night turned out fine and we had a good time. Ellie was happy with her prizes in "Ellie's bu-ket!" (bucket).
After the trick or treating obviously
So October was some of the above and much, much more. It was a great, eventful, fulfilling month. But you know, now that its November, I remember how much nicer November is to recognize the beauty of fall. I mean, the leaves are really falling, its cooler and there is much excitement in the air. I love me some November. Anyway, hope you all have a merry rest of the week and I hope your Fridays come quickly!
