Fun in Greenville- SC Children's Theatre

Welcome to another entry for the series "Fun in Greenville"! If you missed this previous post, here is a quick refresher of what I'm doing here: As we discover and experience little things here and there in Greenville, I will write up a post about here as a feature of family things to do in the Greenville area. Pros and Cons of each to be included!

This post is for the SC Children's Theatre and more specifically it's "2nd Stage" productions. In October, I took Ellie to a little theatre show which I found through the Greenville Journal we have delivered for free! It looked fun, interesting and age appropriate so in we go! This particular show was called "Go to Bed, Little Raccoon!" This little raccoon child named "Little" puts her mother through the ringer at bedtime asking for thing after another.

Location: The very unsuspecting  building is on Augusta St. which is just within the outskirts of downtown Greenville. There is parking at the building or rather beside it which is great but my GPS didn't take me right there so I parked and walked a block or two. If after the show you wanted to eat or keep walking around, you could always just walk from the theatre which is a huge bonus not having to move your car to park again. (If you are familiar with the parking situation in downtown then you know what I'm talking about-it is not so good and I don't ever even go there hardly.) This is plus!

We ate lunch nearby afterwards

Offers: The show of course! It lasted about 30 minutes all together- I think. When you walk in all the kids are just sort of hanging out waiting for the show to start. Then the curtain opens and you see the colorful carpets on the floor (small child friendly!) and the stage is set up RIGHT in front of you which makes it all very approachable. The room is like a stage itself; dark with some stage lights. This part about this play is the interaction-see next detail.

Ages: This "2nd Stage" is specific to 3-7 yrs! There is of course some wiggle room there, literally and figuratively, so if your child is elementary age or quite young but can be entertained then it is perfect! Ellie is 1.5 years (21 months) but she is in love with books and is mostly OK with sitting still and paying attention. The children can move a bit since they are not in seats but you know, you can't run around or anything. The best part is that the play is interactive! The kids get to walk up to the characters, hold props and talk! The adults really can just sit back and watch or you can help your child too if they are shy. If neither of you want to participate then you could still just sit and chill I'd imagine. It is very informal, very intimate (only 2 characters too) and just super sweet.

What I learned: I want to take Ellie back in the spring/winter! The price is quite good at just $8 dollars but be aware everyone needs a ticket. Bring comfortable shoes for sitting on and clothes that are also friendly for sitting crossed-legged. As always, if your child does get upset please do excuse yourselves. Even though this is for small children, crying/whining in the background makes for great distractions and before you know it, other kids aren't paying attention either and/or can't hear. But overall this is so worth it. Look at for dates at their website and book in advance. I bought ours a month and a half ahead I believe.
