Jolly Ole England

Happy Christmas to all of you! A little British lingo to lead up to a recount of and some picture sharing of our time in England back in October, but mostly just London.  If you know me at all then you know it has been a near life long dream of mine to visit London. It is a history nerd's fantasy to see all the ages old sites within this bustling city. Compared to all the other cities I've seen in Europe, London is able to best mingle of worlds of old and new. Sleek glass buildings right next to 500 year old churches and over crowded streets running along the lines of the Tower of London. Perfection!

So John and I started to plan this trip back in January. By July it was a done deal. We (I) were equal parts giddy to travel and super nervous to leave the kids. We planned 4 days and 4 nights. It was a quick trip but it was just enough.

After we FINALLY made it on the plane. That's a story on its own...

On Friday morning we arrived and found our cute little boutique hotel in the district of Paddington. This area was so quiet compared to Westminster and the like. We couldn't check in so we walked to the gardens and park around Kensington Palace. There were so many swans and ducks in the little peaceful place. We had lunch, walked some more and then went to our hotel.  After showering and getting settled we walked to dinner and the British museum. What a HUGE place.

On Saturday we walked. Man did we walk. We got very familiar with the city this way, walking and the subway. We saw the Tower of London, The Globe theatre, Tower Bridge and lots of other highlights. We were exhausted by the end of the day (in a good way) and decided to take a trip to the countryside on Sunday.

On Sunday we rode a train to Salisbury to see Stonehenge. It was the most glorious day. Light breeze, clear and sunny skies. We saw the rich green pastures and lots of livestock and middle of it all...Stonehenge. This was probably out best moment...that and what we did Monday.

Monday was our last day so we went to Westminster Abbey and saw Buckingham Palace. We returned that late after noon for a prayer service there which was amazing. The choir, the history and the moment was just beautiful.

Tuesday we began our journey home. All was fine but we were glad to get home and get our girls! They had fun too :)

This was definitely the highlights recap but you get the idea. London was fantastic. The British people were awesome too. It was so nice to be back in Europe. John had a good time too by the way :) it was good for us to get away.
